FLASH: BT's This Binary Universe in Theaters

Thu Mar 29, 2007, 8:54 PM
I'm not much of a blogger, so this will be a bit different.

I had the good fortune to attend a conference session held by BT at the 2007 Winter Music Conference in Miami. BT held a session to talk about the mixing of the 5.1 audio for his DVD opus This Binary Universe. The talk was phenomenal and it was a lot of fun to get inside of the brain of a digital composer. I was accompanied by my friend the uberdeejay AndyB, who I'd like to thank for explaining a lot of the audio engineering stuff to me.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I have DeviantArt to thank for turning me on to BT via the This Binary Universe tour which was sponsored by DA: £dAPresents. I wouldn't have even known about the show without DA's announcement. I had a spectacular time seeing BT and Thomas Dolby perform live in such an intimate environment. To top that off I got to meet both of them after the show thanks to !

One of the very exciting things BT mentioned during his talk was that This Binary Universe will be RELEASED IN THEATERS!!!1 I stole a few minutes of his time after the session and learned that he will be creating transitions between the tracks in addition to making an entirely new intro. Hopefully we'll see a moderately wide release (or at least 1 theater in Miami) for the anticipated September opening. This is especially cool, because BT said his Miami announcement was the first, meaning I may be breaking the story on deviantArt (let the flames begin).

I can't find any other info anywhere, I think that's kinda cool. There isn't even anything on the distributor's website, Indican Pictures. They're the people we have to thank for distributing "Boondock Saints" which may bode well for this new type of theatrical experience. If only we could get it in IMAX...

What I'd really like to see from BT is a release of the Donnie Darko remix he performed at his live show in Miami. When I asked him about this he gave a non-committal response about how he'd thought about doing something like that. To get an idea what I'm talking about, you can check out a video [link] my girlfriend made at the show. The quality isn't what I'd like, but I can't tell you how much this rocked out.

So, I guess I want to thank the DeviantArt community for doing what they do best, exposing us to beautiful and wonderful things. I think a lot of times we get caught up in the problems at DA and forget that the community is what we make of it.

I'd like to dedicate my new background "Pitch shifter" to BT and electronic artists everywhere. Thanks to AndyB and Garfunk for posing for me into the wee hours. If you get a chance, please check out their MySpace pages, I shot both of their profile pics

I'm excited for the upcoming theatre release! It should be an amazing experience. BT is a genius and great role model.

Always a pleasure to share my world of audio crazed production. Thanks for the support as well!
